01 — The chase

A route decided an hour before departure.

Tromsø sits inside the aurora oval, but the town's own lights and coastal cloud cover often get in the way. Every afternoon our guides read satellite cloud imagery and solar wind data, then pick the darkest, clearest stretch of coastline within reach — sometimes twenty minutes out, sometimes two hours toward the Finnish border.

19:00

Pickup

The coach picks up at hotels in and around Tromsø sentrum. Staying further out, or somewhere we don't swing by? Meet us at Prostneset — the harbour terminal by the Hurtigruten pier, an easy walk or short taxi from anywhere in town. Board, and settle into a heated seat with a wool blanket.

19:45

Briefing & what to expect

Your guide runs through tonight's forecast and chase plan, checks everyone's layered up for a night standing outside in the cold, and pours the first round of hot cocoa or berry tea.

20:30 – 00:30

The chase

We drive between two or three dark-sky stops along the fjords — Kvaløya, Sommarøy, or the Malangen coast — pausing wherever the sky opens up. Guides help with camera settings and long-exposure shots at every stop.

00:30 – 01:00

Home by 01:00

The chase itself wraps up by 00:30 — what follows is just the drive back. Photos are shared to a group folder on the way, and you're dropped at your hotel warm and, most nights, with proof the sky did in fact answer.

02 — Charter options

Two ways to book the bus.

Every charter includes hot drinks and a guide trained in aurora photography. The difference is how much of the bus — and the route — is yours.

03 — The fleet

Built for waiting in the cold.

Diesel-heated to –25°C, double-glazed for photography through the glass, and fitted with low interior lighting so your eyes stay adjusted to the dark between stops.

16-seat coach

Reclining heated seats, onboard flask service, and a low-set interior lighting rig so you keep your night vision between stops.

04 — From the road

What guests say after a night out.

"Our guide rerouted us twice mid-drive chasing a gap in the clouds. Worth every detour."

Freya — Copenhagen, DK

"Our guide talked us through camera settings for the aurora — even on my phone, the shots looked incredible."

Marco — Turin, IT

"First night was cloudy — they put us on the next charter free, no questions."

Priya — Singapore, SG

05 — Practical info

What to bring, what's covered.

Included on every charter

  • Hot drinks and a light snack on board
  • Guide support with camera settings for phones and DSLRs
  • Hotel pickup within Tromsø sentrum, or meet us at Prostneset
  • Free rebooking if the sky stays fully overcast

Worth bringing yourself

  • Warm, wind-proof winter layers — thermal base layer, insulation, and a shell; expect well below freezing
  • Insulated winter boots and gloves
  • A camera with manual mode, or a recent phone with night mode
  • A spare battery — cold drains them fast
  • Motion sickness tablets if you're prone to it; the coastal roads wind

Reserve

Tell us which night, we'll watch the sky.

Clear-sky guarantee

If cloud cover blocks the aurora completely, you're welcome back on any later charter at no extra cost.

Pick a date to see remaining seats.

Prostneset, the harbour terminal, is the quickest and most practical place to meet — and if you're staying centrally, it's usually a few minutes' walk away. We also collect from a handful of hotels a little further out; switch below to check whether yours is one of them.
